Frequently Asked Questions

We have the answers you need

What happens after I contact Deutsch Law?

We start by listening to what happened and the impact it has had on you and your family. If the circumstances suggest further review is warranted, we explain the records, medical questions, and next steps that may be useful. Contacting the firm does not itself create an attorney-client relationship.

Who should I hire as my attorney?

Many attorneys advertise for “medical malpractice” cases but in reality devote only a small portion of their time to the area. We specialize in medical malpractice and have done so for decades, with a proven record of successful verdicts, settlements, and client reviews. In the final analysis, you should also feel comfortable with your attorney, and develop a relationship of trust.

How long do I have to file a medical malpractice claim in New York?

In New York, you typically have two and one-half years from the date of injury to file a medical malpractice claim. In cases involving failure to diagnose cancer, longer periods may apply. However, exceptions do apply, so it's vital to consult a lawyer promptly to investigate a claim on a timely basis.

Do I have to pay for a consultation?

No. Our cases are taken on a contingency basis. You do not have to pay a fee unless we obtain compensation for you. The fee is based upon a percentage of the amount recovered.

How long will my case take?

Most of our cases reach a successful result within approximately three years. This compares favorably to the New York State average of five years. During most of the life of a case, it should not be a day-to-day activity for you, and should not affect your work or personal life. We will provide regular status updates and answer your emails or calls at any point.

What compensation can I receive?

Compensation in medical malpractice cases may cover medical costs, lost income, pain and suffering, and more. The exact amount depends on the unique details of your case.
